This article expresses a strong view on how the author feels her "español estadounidense" needs to be preserved in order to maintain cultural unity when used as a private form of communication. For any immigrant, adaptation to a new country is always an issue. Adaptation can take on many forms weather, culture, and for many, language. For an immigrant whose native language is not English, they are considered to be outsiders. Many Americans are of the opinion that if you want to live in the United States, then you need to be able to speak the language of the country. And while the author accepts this opinion in theory, she thinks that adapting to a new culture doesn't necessarily mean abandoning her own. In fact, Gloria Anzaluda, strongly believes that her Chicano language is a secret and living language. She calls it ‘secret' because only Chicano's can understand the dialect of what is being spoken and with that she associates a deep-seated sense of pride. She wants to be free to use her native tongue to create what she calls a "linguistic identity". No matter where she goes or how Americanized she may be inclined to become, the Chicano language is her way of maintaining the Chicano people alive.

Final Blog Assignment--My experience of Billingual

Actually, since I was in elementary school, I started to get touch with English. At that time, I do not what bilingual is and I also did not imagine that I would come to America. English is just a require course just like Mathematics or Science. As the time passes by, I realized that English is not only just a tool to broaden our horizon but also an advantage to make me competitive among students. In this way, I have tried my best to learn English well same with Chinese. When I can communicate with foreign people, I found that knowing more than 2 languages is quite convenient.
Then I came to America. I found that the English I use here and I learned is really different. What I learn is too formal, while America is a country that people favor free forever. In this way, quite a few habits of using English have to change. Moreover, even though it seems that I have learned English for years, the vocabulary and even pronounce are definitely not sufficient when comparing with native America people. Hence, it is hard to have bilingual skill that both of them are very good.
Even though it is hard, I understand the advantage of bilingual. First, it is a good way to learn foreign culture. Second, it will help us to more easily communicate with foreign friends, which will force us advance and development. Moreover, if I can have knowledge of more than 3 languages, I can walk through the world without blocking. Hence, I will catch any opportunities to study other languages such as Japanese or Spanish.

Final Assignment Short Reflection

In assignment 5, I chose the topic “Using WRA skill to analyze the current event”. Then I wrote an essay about a horrible disease in current days--swine flu. It adds insult to injury to people who have just suffered from serious diseases such as bird flu and financial crisis. This virus has spread through most of the world which let the world in danger. Fortunately, it has been controlled soon. Due to I am not a doctor or scientist, certainly I did not much focus the symptom or the treatments. I once heard a report by scientists that most of the strange diseases and horrible disasters in current days are cause by the bad environment. The bad environment is made by human being’s activities. Hence, in my essay, I put focus on the relationship between people’s live and nature world. I emphasized that human and animal are one family instead of enemies. Moreover, I made swine flu as an example to assert the importance of protecting environment.
It seems that I am out of my topic. However, everything is interconnected especially in our nature world. It is just that I broad the area of this topic instead of dreaming about “we want to fight the disease”.

Relations of Literacy and Technology

"How does literacy shape technology? How does technology shape literacy?"

These two quetions seem to be almost the same, but I think the answers would be different even though they have definitely influenced each other all the time. First of all, technology is one kind of literacy, which also contains understanding, knowing and operating. As the rapid development of everything, people start to unsatisfied with the speed of their literacy promotion by brains. This pressure really pushes the technology advancing. For example, webwork came out because people want to understand the world more easilier and clearly. Hence, technology development is base on literacy promotion.

However, as far as I am concerned, the influence by technology is specific. Even though new technology also accelerate the literacy promotion of the world, literacy is still literacy. For example, ancient people write text by stones then people used pens in latter-day and we use computers to type the texts now. However, the texts are always the same. The difference is the way to understand and write so technology can not change the literacy.

Nowadays, there are quite a few ways to know and understand what happend in our world. People as audiences would like to choose their most favourite and simple method to acquire all kinds of information. In this way, how do medias influence and persuade audiences is very important such as paper work, pictures or even videos. For example, videos on internet is a kind of high technology method for previous generations so they may probably choose newpaper to know what they want because it is easy. Instead, young people are opposite because they have been into this web society.

As for me, what I focus is also quite simple. I like to believe what I see by myself so that the news with real pictures or videos will easily persuade me. However, I do not usually trust the text news with lots of rhetoric. It seem that most of the true reality has been covered already.

Furthermore, another media method what convinced me is printed book. I am always trusting what books write without any reasons. Due to this reason, the time I favourite is to read a book with a cup of coffee, in which I learned and relaxed.

Computer Literacy--5

I am taking CSE classes this semester, in which I started to get touch with a new kind of language called computer language. Nowadays, almost all kinds of softwares and programs are made by this language because computers are just machines that we should make something they can recognise and identify. We have created a few web page by it.
This is the first time I learn about how to use program language so I have lots of additonal work to do. Fortunately, Microsoft made everything simple and easy to operate. After I entering NVU program, what I need to do is to follow the rules. For example, the meanning of the codes ""and "" are to change the font and color of text. Those seem like to be very simple. However, if we check the "source"menu of complicated websites, all of the comprehensive designs consists of those simple signs. Hence, when we have acquired the meaning and relationship of programming codes or languages, we start to know the literacy of computer science.
Computer skill is essential in current society so I will work hard to do well in improve my ability.

Language Literacy--4

Since I started learning English,I've found a big change in my life.There are a plenty of differences between it and my native language,Chinese.For example,when someone asked me "aren't you into this movie?"I used to answer the question with a simple "yes" in Chinese.That means I really don't like it.But things changed after I had a "English thought".My answer was no longer "yes" but ""no to the same question if I want to express my dislike__English pushes me to responde according to the fact.
With time going by,we use more english in our daily life no matter in China or now in America.Sometimes we even get stuck in expressing ourselves in Chinese and choose English to speak out our feelings . And of course ,a "yes" or a "yep" with a gesture of "victor" are more likable for everybody , no matter native english epeakers o non-english speakers,to share his happiness ,his approvement and even more sentiments.Mastering these two languages ,our life is more colorful because we are able to describe the world with different ways and see it as a producer of beautiful experience with other people.

Music Instruments Literacy--3

I am really crazy about all kinds of music especially the genre of folk and rock. Due to this reason, even though I am not an expert or even professional about instruments, I would still like to play my favourite songs by my guitar. As we know, music contains quite much literacy so it took a long time to improve my knowledge and skill.
First, if I play guitar, the rhythm is the guidance and also one of the most significance of knowing about music. For example, generally, slow rhythm is represented of soft and blue emotions, while rhythem with bouncy beats is using for happy songs. Meanwhile, the rhythm should keep the same above the entire song. Hence, rhythm is the foudamental and the most basic literacy of playing guitar. Without this kind of literacy, the song could be messed up.
The feeling of the melody is also the importance we will focus. When I am playing guitar, at least I should know what each string sound like so I would not run out. If we figure them out, tend melody will come out. I am always admiring on this great intruments, by which the music can really brighten us and encourage us. Hence, if we follow and do the literacy of music, our life time will be more and more colorful.

Online-shopping Literacy--2

Up to now, I have taken quite a few advantages of online-shopping instead of going out in USA. In this case, I think reading the instructions by sellers or websites and comparing most of the feedbacks by buyers could be the literacy of online shopping.
Due to I am a crazy electronics fan, I choose Amazon.com as my shopping market because it includes everything that I like. For example, if I want to buy a digital camera, what I need to do is to type"digital camera" on the searching board. Then Amazon will give a comprehensive list about camera, in which way I can find very detailed information and even suggestions by clicking the mouse. If I like more than one option, I can then read the feedback of buyers because most of them gave the evaluation when they got the good. In this way, I can carefully compare each of the advantage and disaavantages such as price and quality.
When I decide what to buy, what I need to do is still to read the instruction of giving payment. Amazon will give me a kind of detailed form about my payment information. I will just follow the guidance like credit card info and then my payment will be completed easily. Hense, if you do online shopping once, you will get to know the literacy of it soon.

Chemistry Literacy--1

Generally, literacy is considered to be the ability to read and write. If we broaden the definition of that, the understanding of everthing in all kinds of areas could be literacy. Due to the reason that I am really interested in natural science especially Chemistry, I will explain the literacy of chemistry.
Chemistry can not live without elements is the same as mathmatics can not live without number. Hence, element is the first literacy for chemistry. For instance, water consists of Hydrogen and Oxygen, whose abbreviation are H and O. In this case, if we are not understandable on this professional vocabulary, we can not even know what chemistry is. On the contrary, when we acquire a great deal of information of element, learning chemistry would have a clear way at least. As for me, I spent lots of time to remember quite a few kinds of element and what they look like so that I can get touch with this principle.
The principle of mathmatics could also be one of the literacy for chemistry. As we know, we should calculate a great many things when we are taking chemistry classes such as weight and temperature. We should also list many formulas of reactions. In this way, mathmatics skill can not be ignored at all. Fortunately, Asian students are always much more understandable about numbers. Hence, we should first know about element and maths then we know what chemistry is.

At my first view of this picture, I do not even know what it talks about. Then I have been shocked by picture designer’s creative idea. Actually, it is both a commercial and commonweal picture from Wrangler Company, which has two totally different meanings. This genre portfolio will focus on these incredible ideas.
First of all, the picture really shows the completely free-style and its tameless of Wrangler Jeans. It never follows the traditional methods or even nowadays fashions to do their designs. Instead, it abandons those old conceptions and does everything in its own way and value. For example, people everyday shoulder a great deal of stress and they wear masks to cover their sorrows to face difficulties, but it is faked and really makes people tired. However, just like the words on the picture “we are animals”, if people re-pick up their dreams, energy, believes and be animals to release and present their emotion, their lives would be more colorful and relaxed. It is also what does Wrangler respects. The female model in dark environment is quite free and sexy. She is not afraid or nervous about everything, which is also represented the open-minded youths nowadays. Who will not be attracted by this kind of quality? Hence, the simple picture has presented quite a few ideas about Wrangler’s conception about fashion and what should people do to improve their lives.
Moreover, it is also the picture to warn people of no harming the real animals. Sometimes people have no conscious to protect the animal as they meet, which has cause quite a few accident and death of wild animals. In the picture, the view of eyes is from a car driver, who is approaching a real animal. It says, if the driver slows down its speed, that beautiful life would be saved. It will wake our human nature to animals in a very silent and art way. Not only will we feel the beauty, colors or even organization of this picture, we can also learn and deeply think of this picture.All in all, it is a very great picture to present the nowadays value beliefs, which is freedom, open-minded and do beneficial to others. Do not pretend to be happy. Be animals to enjoy the real freedom.

What is "Literacy" to me

In the article, the writer mentioned about the “literacy as power.” and “Literacy as a state of grace.” Literacy is an abstract word that is hard to define. Generally, iteracy means the ability to read and write or the ability to use language proficiently. However, nowadays, I think the meaning of this word has been updated. Literacy does not just include the skill of the language using. Instead, it is the ability to do any study or obtain any infomation. For example, one can well sum up the knowledge and then present them. In this way, information is not just absorb but also has been used. Moreover, literacy can also used in mathmatics, computer, physics(...) instead of language because they are same in obtain and understand the knowledge.

“Edward Scissorhands” is always one of my favorite movies. I first have attracted because of its specific intro scene. It was a snowy and silent night that grandmother was telling story to her lovely granddaughter, which seemed to be a warm and wonderful fairy tale.
Edward, a robot created by a professor, lived alone in the castle. His everything was almost same with a normal man except his scissorhands due to the professor’s suddenly death. He could only live together with the flowers and trees, cutting them as the appearances he liked. His life was simple and happy until the day that Miss Peg brought him into the human world, which is strange and complicated. People’s enthusiasm, kind, selfish, suspicion, brutal, human nature, and love are like a circle that is all felt by Edward one by one. Finally, due to his difference, he ran away back to the castle and together with the machines that are only belonged to him. When the Christmas came, it would be snowing in the castle. Only the people who really loved him could understand the beautiful in Edward’s heart.

The beauty is the first thing what I want to talk about. The pure beauty is always lacked beside us. The world is black, despaired, cold in the eyes from most of us. Fortunately, the director saved our view of beauty in this movie. He created a lot of beautiful things. The love and human nature which are similar to fairy story are one of them. Another beauty is the pure heart from Edward. He had learned a great many books, poetry and policy. He helped people without any own purpose. Moreover, for example, Kim's father asked Edward how to do when he picked up 100 dollar. He answered"give it to my loved ones". It is totally from his heart and never be any reality and fake so that it is lvely and beautiful. And another beauty is “Because you ask me to”, these words can really show his true and pure love to Kim even though he knew the truth, which is definitely beautiful without any impurities.

Furthermore, the ugly is everywhere in the movie. It is hard to see such a fantasy and dream world in nowadays movies. The community is extremely colorful but simple. However, it was not a paradise that reflects all the ugly and conservative rules. There were boring neighbourhoods who just wanted to use Edward to benefit themselves, strangers who was always criticize Edward and even a woman who wanted to have sex with him. Those form a sharp contrast with Edward's beatiful. For example, finally, Edward ran away back to his castle, which means pure love can not live with reality. It is much sarcastic to make us deeply think our real world.

All in all, the movie really takes us to enjoy the pure beautiful and then consider about the ugly of human nature. I could never forget the pure eyes of Edward.

The time I first got touched with the song “Tears in Heaven” was when I was learning blues music in a silent night. Eric Clapton’s voice with mild sorrow suddenly covered and shocked every corner of my room and even cells of my body. In the song, it is not that important to talk about the difference between human life and heaven. Instead, the great love and family bonds between two worlds touched me much.
Before I understood the origin of composing, I was really curious about the writer’s specific experiences and thoughts. At the moment I was listening, I seemed to pass through the tunnel of time and deeply hugged with my lovers in heaven. However, when my lip slightly touched with heaven, I realized the helpless of years that rolling like a stream. Some people and some memories have not already been belonged to this world. Even though time comforts all the sad things, nothing can made people in the blues with tears dripping down more than this. Then I knew the reason why Clapton composed this song was because of the death his son and best friends in just a short time. From the song, I can clearly hear the tears dropping in his heart. “Would you know my name, if I saw you in heaven.” Actually, the road to the heaven is never built. No matter what kind of emotion we use to feel, no matter how to make our brain pass through from reality to illusion when thinking, we can not still feel the lovers from another world. We can not pick up the warm and feeling again as it was in the past. Angels often take away our loves in a silent way, at that moment, our heaven becomes not that perfect ever.
However, even though quite a few brutal beats was on Clapton, he sings “I must be strong to carry on. Cause I know I don’t belong to the heaven.” As I am concerned, it is the high tide of this song. If the song is without his turning point, it will probably just be a sad poem. However, those words really showed his brave spirit and strong mind that he had conquered all the hardship and even the fear to life from himself, which also encouraged listeners a lot. In normal life, any bad things could happen, the significance is how to positively face and conquer them. No necessary to be much sentimental because life is going on. It is not just a song but a lesson to teach us how to live.
All in all, the song presented the writer’s whole emotion and thoughts just in some short words. Not only did the song express his missing and sorrow to his lovers, but he also showed his courage to face those things, which made the song touched me every time.

One day in life

Mid-Autumn Festival has been always a special day in the traditional China. Like Christmas, it has a important place in all Chinese’s' hearts.But also,it has another special meaning for me.Mid-Autmn Festival used to be a big and important gathering at my granny's place - when all the adults and children gathered. The elders played many rounds of mahjong and the children roamed the dark streets with their own lighted lanterns. It was the only "official" day of the year when children were allowed to play with matches and fire.The streets where my granny stayed were dark and deserted. Once the sun set, a group of us will gathered and planned our "adventure". We will explored the "unknown" back alleys of the neighbourhood. We will purposely avoid all the main roads where they were brightly lit. The fun and exciting part about Mid-Autumn Festival isn't about the awful unhealthy oily and sticky mooncake - but the "exploration of the dark alley" with our humble candles and paper-lantern. I remember when I led a few neighbourhood kids to explore the dark, smelly and rat-infested drain system. We walked and walked...along the algea-banks of the canals..It is this kind of night when I miss my family, my granny and my childhood. Now, I am spending this special night with my new friends and life here.Hope everything is gonna be all right.

Time goes by

It's a story about a tiny journey.

I came across it along with a couple of others when going through my photo gallery,and it captured my attention at first sight. Sunlight shone onto me,and I turned back to record my shadow.It was a fairyland-like place but I was so confused by the endless difficulties in my life at that time and I just could not flatter my saddness on my forehead.Then I was couraged by a friend to run towards the edge of the wide grassland trying to reach the lake in the distance.My heart started to sing with peace and happiness as there was no any other one in the world,and I felt satisfied and fullfilled.Anything is nothing,I determined not to hesitate to gain myself a better tomorrow.Friedrich Nietzsche once said :"If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."

Since travelling has always been my love-to-be,I've got quite a large amount of photos during these little times and trips.Among the thousands of pictures,you may not see any of me.But every single emotion growed in those simple stones, gothic buildings and even just an ordinary stranger I met accidentally on the wayside , is unabashedly showing us that life is just like this,or more often , telling us that life is NOT just like this.The camera captures beautiful moments for us and with them,life is everlasting.

This is a commercial video by Nokia, which I really like and be touched. The combination of the elements which are presented develop and deep the thesis alot. I will analyse it by several parts.
First of all, the background music is perfect to the story main clue. Shakira's euphony exactly reflact both the actor and actress's emotion and the development of the story. For example, when the actress received the message, the music suddenly changed to high tide,which help us know what the actress is thinking.
Moreover,the creative way of actor's action also develop the thesis. First, it can prove actor's true love for his woman. Furthermore, it makes the story more funny and touched because its kind of special method is everyone's dream, which also present NOKIA 's intellengence.
Third, at the end of this video, the actor sat on the bench who has a really nervous face. The wall behind him was written "No" and this could show his emotion by another way. However, at this time, actress's call was coming. Then the man smiled,meanwhile, the track which behind him left. "No"suddenly changed to "Nokia",which means Nokia makes everything possible. This scence really shocked me and blur my eyes.

Don't kill for peace

Nowadays,there is a growing awareness about both the positive and negative influences of wars or killings around the world. The govermeners always hold the opnion that they kill because it will make our world peaceful because the less bad people and even countries, the better is our world.
Actually, it is the obvious excuse of them who want to dominate the world and make their dream that full of appetency and power become true. The perfect world that makes by killing is a kind of falsification and fake, which is denefitly not real. Every problem and sin has its own way to solve except brutal. At this point, killing is selfish and most barbarous inhuman. If people get something wrong or even make sins, they have their rights to rebuilt their human nuture and become new persons.
All in all, don't kill for peace.Don't abandon all the hopes. Peace means mercy.

The article is a story about the author's questions to his family's love, because in his opnion, he cannot find the vivid love from his family just like the dramma. However, his mother's answer is full of intellent emotion that really touch me.

The mother said that love is like a thread. Seldomly it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt. The thread makes the quilt strong and durable. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere or anytime, but it's really there. Love is inside.

The article immediately evokes me the reading experience of the book "The Joy Luck Club" also written by Amy Tan. Indeed, as an international student, generation gap and culture clashing are always coming into our lives. For instance, the mother in the artitle, due to the reason that she had spent most of her lifetime in China, she could not speak or even write such beautiful English as her daughter. In this way, problems were coming between this family in a row.

As we know, English is a phonetic language which is based on the alphabet. When Asian people use this kind of totally different language, a great deal of distance sense will come out. Due to this reason, they always cannot control themselves use their previous way from mother togue to expatiate. This problem will only be solved by time gradually.As a result, we should have high tolerance to face.

Language helps you perceive the world

"Without the word, there is no world",what Mikhail Bakhtin said exactly shows the significance role of language that influence the whole world. Indeed, when people have just borned, they have no feeling about what the world is. Then they percieve while they are reading, watching, listening and their experience. In this case, one that should not be ignored is language.
Language exists everywhere in our daily life. Parents and teachers are always telling people what right or wrong is by words. Moreover, when people sit by TV, their knowledge has also been improving in a very silent way, which gradually affect their world view. Furthermore, most of our studies are based on language such as compositions. In this way, we can acquire a lot about everything and even have our own judgement about what the reality is. In a word, without language, perceiving the world seems to be a dark way to through.
However, language is a double-edged sword. Due to the reason that learnning everything by language are using others' ideas. Not only how to follow the rules should people know, but people should also understand how to change the rules and create.
