Late assignment of responce-how to tome a wild tongue

This article expresses a strong view on how the author feels her "español estadounidense" needs to be preserved in order to maintain cultural unity when used as a private form of communication. For any immigrant, adaptation to a new country is always an issue. Adaptation can take on many forms weather, culture, and for many, language. For an immigrant whose native language is not English, they are considered to be outsiders. Many Americans are of the opinion that if you want to live in the United States, then you need to be able to speak the language of the country. And while the author accepts this opinion in theory, she thinks that adapting to a new culture doesn't necessarily mean abandoning her own. In fact, Gloria Anzaluda, strongly believes that her Chicano language is a secret and living language. She calls it ‘secret' because only Chicano's can understand the dialect of what is being spoken and with that she associates a deep-seated sense of pride. She wants to be free to use her native tongue to create what she calls a "linguistic identity". No matter where she goes or how Americanized she may be inclined to become, the Chicano language is her way of maintaining the Chicano people alive.

Final Blog Assignment--My experience of Billingual

Actually, since I was in elementary school, I started to get touch with English. At that time, I do not what bilingual is and I also did not imagine that I would come to America. English is just a require course just like Mathematics or Science. As the time passes by, I realized that English is not only just a tool to broaden our horizon but also an advantage to make me competitive among students. In this way, I have tried my best to learn English well same with Chinese. When I can communicate with foreign people, I found that knowing more than 2 languages is quite convenient.
Then I came to America. I found that the English I use here and I learned is really different. What I learn is too formal, while America is a country that people favor free forever. In this way, quite a few habits of using English have to change. Moreover, even though it seems that I have learned English for years, the vocabulary and even pronounce are definitely not sufficient when comparing with native America people. Hence, it is hard to have bilingual skill that both of them are very good.
Even though it is hard, I understand the advantage of bilingual. First, it is a good way to learn foreign culture. Second, it will help us to more easily communicate with foreign friends, which will force us advance and development. Moreover, if I can have knowledge of more than 3 languages, I can walk through the world without blocking. Hence, I will catch any opportunities to study other languages such as Japanese or Spanish.

Final Assignment Short Reflection

In assignment 5, I chose the topic “Using WRA skill to analyze the current event”. Then I wrote an essay about a horrible disease in current days--swine flu. It adds insult to injury to people who have just suffered from serious diseases such as bird flu and financial crisis. This virus has spread through most of the world which let the world in danger. Fortunately, it has been controlled soon. Due to I am not a doctor or scientist, certainly I did not much focus the symptom or the treatments. I once heard a report by scientists that most of the strange diseases and horrible disasters in current days are cause by the bad environment. The bad environment is made by human being’s activities. Hence, in my essay, I put focus on the relationship between people’s live and nature world. I emphasized that human and animal are one family instead of enemies. Moreover, I made swine flu as an example to assert the importance of protecting environment.
It seems that I am out of my topic. However, everything is interconnected especially in our nature world. It is just that I broad the area of this topic instead of dreaming about “we want to fight the disease”.

Relations of Literacy and Technology

"How does literacy shape technology? How does technology shape literacy?"

These two quetions seem to be almost the same, but I think the answers would be different even though they have definitely influenced each other all the time. First of all, technology is one kind of literacy, which also contains understanding, knowing and operating. As the rapid development of everything, people start to unsatisfied with the speed of their literacy promotion by brains. This pressure really pushes the technology advancing. For example, webwork came out because people want to understand the world more easilier and clearly. Hence, technology development is base on literacy promotion.

However, as far as I am concerned, the influence by technology is specific. Even though new technology also accelerate the literacy promotion of the world, literacy is still literacy. For example, ancient people write text by stones then people used pens in latter-day and we use computers to type the texts now. However, the texts are always the same. The difference is the way to understand and write so technology can not change the literacy.

Audience of media.(Failed posting on March 31)

Nowadays, there are quite a few ways to know and understand what happend in our world. People as audiences would like to choose their most favourite and simple method to acquire all kinds of information. In this way, how do medias influence and persuade audiences is very important such as paper work, pictures or even videos. For example, videos on internet is a kind of high technology method for previous generations so they may probably choose newpaper to know what they want because it is easy. Instead, young people are opposite because they have been into this web society.

As for me, what I focus is also quite simple. I like to believe what I see by myself so that the news with real pictures or videos will easily persuade me. However, I do not usually trust the text news with lots of rhetoric. It seem that most of the true reality has been covered already.

Furthermore, another media method what convinced me is printed book. I am always trusting what books write without any reasons. Due to this reason, the time I favourite is to read a book with a cup of coffee, in which I learned and relaxed.

Computer Literacy--5

I am taking CSE classes this semester, in which I started to get touch with a new kind of language called computer language. Nowadays, almost all kinds of softwares and programs are made by this language because computers are just machines that we should make something they can recognise and identify. We have created a few web page by it.
This is the first time I learn about how to use program language so I have lots of additonal work to do. Fortunately, Microsoft made everything simple and easy to operate. After I entering NVU program, what I need to do is to follow the rules. For example, the meanning of the codes ""and "" are to change the font and color of text. Those seem like to be very simple. However, if we check the "source"menu of complicated websites, all of the comprehensive designs consists of those simple signs. Hence, when we have acquired the meaning and relationship of programming codes or languages, we start to know the literacy of computer science.
Computer skill is essential in current society so I will work hard to do well in improve my ability.

Language Literacy--4

Since I started learning English,I've found a big change in my life.There are a plenty of differences between it and my native language,Chinese.For example,when someone asked me "aren't you into this movie?"I used to answer the question with a simple "yes" in Chinese.That means I really don't like it.But things changed after I had a "English thought".My answer was no longer "yes" but ""no to the same question if I want to express my dislike__English pushes me to responde according to the fact.
With time going by,we use more english in our daily life no matter in China or now in America.Sometimes we even get stuck in expressing ourselves in Chinese and choose English to speak out our feelings . And of course ,a "yes" or a "yep" with a gesture of "victor" are more likable for everybody , no matter native english epeakers o non-english speakers,to share his happiness ,his approvement and even more sentiments.Mastering these two languages ,our life is more colorful because we are able to describe the world with different ways and see it as a producer of beautiful experience with other people.
